Using the Copy Machines: Home

Adding Money to your MSM ID

You use your MSM ID card to pay for copies and print jobs. They do not accept cash. Follow these instructions step by step to link your ID card to a PayPal account.

Go to paypalprint.msmnyc.edu and enter the login you use for your MSM email (not your Library login information). Then click or tap the Login button.

You’ll be shown your account, with your current balance and a transaction history. To refill your balance, tap or click Budget Recharge.

Enter the amount you would like to add in whole dollar amounts (the minimum amount is $1), and choose Next.

You will be redirected to PayPal’s website to finish the transaction. This might take a minute--don't refresh the page. You can use most major credit or debit cards, or a PayPal account if you already have one set up. The amount you're adding to your account is shown in the top right-hand corner.

Once you have completed checkout, you can tap Return to Merchant on the PayPal page to return to your account summary.

Your balance and transaction history will show the new information.

Problems using Uniflow or adding money to your PayPal account should be reported to IT using this form.

Using the Copy Machines

There are three copy machines inside the Library, and one just outside the library that's available even when the Library is closed. All four machines can make copies, scan, and print; click the tabs on this guide to find out how.

Paper copies and printouts are 5¢ each for black-and-white, 10¢ for color. Scanning is free. You must use your MSM ID card to log in and to pay; the machines do not accept cash. Every new student's ID card is pre-loaded with $2.00. To add more money, you need to connect your card to a PayPal account; see the instructions above.

If you're new to MSM, please read through these instructions completely, as well as those for adding funds to your card. They should answer most of your questions, and help get you set up for quick and easy copying when you need it. If you have a phone or tablet, we recommend tapping through these instructions step by step while standing at one of the machines. If you need additional help, or if a machine needs more paper or maintenance, inquire at the circulation desk at the front of the Library.

Please read, and take to heart, the following notice that is posted near all of the Library's copy machines:

NOTICE: The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this equipment is responsible for any infringement.

The copier will display a screen similar to the image below. Tap your card on the copier's integrated card reader (usually to the left of the screen) to get started.

If it is your first time using the copy machines, enter your MSM credentials using the same login you use for your MSM email account. (Need password help? See this page.) You will only need to do this the first time you use the machines to link your ID card. After that, the machine will recognize you automatically when you tap your card.

Choose from the menu the function you want: copy, scan, or print.

After tapping “Scan and Send," you'll see a “Send to Myself” button. Tap this to automatically add your MSM email address to the destination list, and you can begin scanning. If you'd like to send your scan to a different address, choose "New Destination."

To print a document, send it as an attachment from your MSM email account to: print@msmnyc.edu. Supported file types include pdf, jpg, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, pub, rtf, txt, xps, html, and eml. (Note: Finale and Sibelius files need to be converted to one of these formats.)

Then:

  1. Go to any Library machine and tap your card to log in.
  2. Select “Secure Print” to open your queue.
  3. Select the jobs you would like to print. You can also modify finishing options at this time, such as the number of copies, duplex mode, and stapling/hole punch (where supported).
  4. Select “Print + Delete” (for a normal print) or “Print + Keep” (if you will need this job again later that day).
Note: Your print jobs will remain in the queue for 12 hours from submission, or until you select either “Print + Delete” or “Delete."
  5. Remember to log out when you are finished, either by touching “Log Out” or tapping your card on the card reader again.

The staff at the circulation desk can often help with any problems or questions you have. They can also supply paper and toner, should a machine run out. If the machine requires a technician's expertise, we will call one in, but it might be a day or two. Meanwhile, please try one of the other machines.

These machines can do a lot. Most people figure out the basics on their own with a little practice, but if you'd like to become a real virtuoso, here's the official user guide from Canon.
