Using the Copy Machines: Printing

Printer/Copier/Scanner Instructions

MSM's multi-function Canon printers are distributed across campus, including one in the Library and one in the lobby just outside the Library's entrance.

Please note:

  • Follow the instructions below for setting up your account
  • You can send documents to be printed through both the MSM Uniflow website and by emailing mobileprint@msmnyc.us.uniflowonline.com.
  • It may take up to 5 minutes for documents to be ready to print. Once you receive an email from Uniflow letting them know your document has been processed, it will show up in your account on the printer screen, ready to be printed.

If you have any questions or issues, including refund requests, please submit them using internet, computer, or printing issue report form.

Follow All the Instructions Below

MSM's Facilities and IT teams recently replaced the 21 Canon multi-function printers that are distributed throughout campus.

Follow these steps to add the new devices to your computer:

  1. Restart your computer
  2. After restart, navigate to "Printers & scanners" using the search bar at the bottom of your screen
  3. Click on the device named "Administrative Queue"
  4. Click on "Set as default"
  5. Click the "Back" button to navigate back to "Printers & scanners"
  6. Click on the device named "uniflow\Administrative Print Queue"
    • Note that this is a different device than the one named in step 3 above
  7. Click on "Remove" in the top right corner
  8. Restart your computer one more time

That's it, you're all set! Going forward when you print, your device will default to the printer named "Administrative Queue."

Follow these steps to connect your MSM ID with the new devices:

  1. Navigate to https://msmnyc.us.uniflowonline.com/
  2. Select the lower option to "Continue with MSM Login" and enter your credentials
  3. In the Identities section of your Dashboard, hover over PIN and select the meatballs menu (three dots) on the right side. Click "Show PIN Code"
  4. Go to any one of the new Canon devices and tap your MSM ID
  5. You will be prompted for a confirmation code - enter your PIN
  6. Tap your MSM ID again when prompted
  7. That's it you're all set! Tap your MSM ID as usual one more time to log in
If you experience any issues, please report them using this form.

Step 1. Connecting Your MSM ID to MSM's Printers

NOTE: This is best done on a computer or larger screened tablet. You may not be able to complete all of these steps from your phone.

  1. To start, go to the MSM Uniflow printing site: https://msmnyc.us.uniflowonline.com
  2. Click on Continue with MSM Login

You will be taken through the steps to login via MSM SSO (use your MSM credentials to log in)

Once logged in, you will see the Uniflow dashboard.

This should be your starting point for all your printing needs - set up your account, see your balance, view the files in your print queue, look at your recent scans, etc.

Your first time using the printers, you will need to get your PIN to connect your MSM ID to your account. This is necessary for you to be able to access your account balance and print queue when you tap your ID at a printer.

  1. In the Uniflow dashboard, go to Identities, look for the line that begins with PIN
  2. Click on the 3 dots at the right of that row
  3. Then click Show PIN
  4. Write down/copy this number
  5. Uniflow PIN screenshot

  • Go to a copier and tap your MSM ID card on the panel; it will ask you to provide your PIN (the one you retrieved in the prior step)
  • Enter the PIN, press Register Card, and tap your card a second time. Your MSM ID card should now be connected with your account
  • Tapping your MSM ID a third time (!) will, finally, log you in, ready to print/scan/copy
  • From now on, you should only have to tap once to log into your Uniflow account at the printers

Step 2. Adding Money to your Uniflow Printing Budget

NOTE: Adding funds to your printing account must be done from a computer, not your phone.

Use your MSM ID card to pay for copies and print jobs. The machines do not accept cash (nor does the Library). Follow these instructions step by step to link your ID card to a PayPal account.

Black and white prints cost 5 cents per page. Color prints are 10 cents per page.

Logged into MSM Uniflow (see above), go to My Budget. Click on Add Funds to begin adding funds to your account:

  • A window (ADD FUNDS) will pop up. Enter the amount you wish to add (via PayPal)
  • Click on the PayPal button, and a PayPal login window will pop up

Complete the transaction using the PayPal window that opens.

You can use most major credit or debit cards (click "Pay with Debit or Credit Card"), or a PayPal account if you already have one set up (click "Log In"):

Once you have completed checkout, you can tap Return to Merchant on the PayPal page to return to your account summary:

Back in your Uniflow dashboard, your balance and transaction history will show your new available printing budget:

Step 3a. Printing!

  • From the menu at the top left of your Uniflow dashboard (on your computer), click on Start Printing
  • From the Send File Via Drag and Drop box, you can Browse and select files from your computer or drag the documents you'd like to print directly into that box
  • Once you see the file listed in My Queue, your document should be ready to print:

uniflow document manager

  • You can also print by sending an email from your MSM email with attachments to the following email: mobileprint@msmnyc.us.uniflowonline.com
NOTE: this is a new email, different from the email used in previous years to send documents to your print queue
  • Only the email attachment will be printed, not anything in the actual email
  • It may take up to 5 minutes for emailed documents to be ready to print
  • Once you receive an email from Uniflow letting you know your document has been processed, it will show up in your account on the printer screen, ready to be printed. You can also check your Uniflow dashboard

Back at the printer/copier, tap your ID, press Secure Print, select your document, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Black and white prints cost 5 cents per page. Color prints are 10 cents per page.

IMPORTANT: Think about how printing affects our environment!

Please only print what you absolutely need, on paper.

The annual environmental costs of printing to paper are substantial, consuming over 15 billion trees, using waste amounts of water and energy, releasing greenhouse gases, causing deforestation and habitat loss, and creating landfill waste from discarded paper and ink cartridges

Step 3b. Printing from Your Phone

Download the appropriate app for your device:

  • When you open the app (on your mobile device), it will give you a secret key (you may need to click Next first)
  • Take note of your unique (temporary) number

  • From your computer's browser, click the Mobile App icon at the top right of your Uniflow Dashboard

    mobile app icon

  • Enter that secret key number into the window that opens and click Next

    enter your secret key uniflow

  • From the Uniflow mobile app, click the button below your secret key
  • A camera view will open for you to scan the QR code that appears in your Uniflow dashboard (in your computer's browser)
  • Your mobile dashboard will then appear (in the app)

From the app, you can:

  • View your balance but not add more funds (this must be done from the full Uniflow dashboard, on your computer)
  • See a summary of your printing, copying, and scanning activity (but not details as seen in the browser-based Uniflow dashboard)
  • Upload documents to be printed at an MSM printer (press the Print icon at the bottom of the app screen
  • View your print queue

Support and Troubleshooting

The staff at the circulation desk can often help with problems or questions. They can also supply paper and toner, should a machine run out.

If a copy machine requires a technician's expertise, we will call one in, but it may take a day or two. Meanwhile, please try using one of the other machines.

Problems using Uniflow or adding money to your PayPal account should be reported to IT using the internet, computer, or printing issue report form.

If you think you lost money on your account or are due a refund, please report it to IT through that same printing issue report form.

These machines can do a lot. Most people figure out the basics on their own with a little practice, but if you'd like to become a real virtuoso, here's the official user guide from Canon.
