Ebooks are very convenient. However, accessing them can sometimes be a little confusing because the ways of reading them and the digital rights attached to them can vary, title by title. If you have questions about any particular title, write to us or come see us.
The most comprehensive way to find our ebooks is to search our catalog. Using the Advanced Search feature, you can limit your search to ebooks.
Generally, ebooks from Bloomburg, Brill, Cambridge, De Gruyter, JSTOR, Oxford, Project Muse, Taylor and Francis, and Wiley are DRM-free. There are no restrictions on the number of concurrent users or how many PDF pages you can download. In most cases, you can download the entire book chapter-by-chapter or all at once, for you to keep forever.
EBSCO books are the most plentiful in the Library and also the most varied in terms of restrictions. In brief, there are three ways to read EBSCO ebooks:
Libby (by Overdrive) was added in August 2025. Familiar to many from your local public library, it has an easy-to-use app for phones and tablets, though books can also be read in a browser. Libby is a source for audiobooks and several dozen magazines, including popular ones like New York and The New Yorker. You can search Libby books in our catalog, but you can also find Manhattan School of Music within the Libby app (choose "Add Library" and search for Manhattan School of Music or our zip code, 10027). After logging in with your MSM SSO credentials, you'll see all of the ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines available to you through Manhattan School of Music.
To start exploring the Library's ebook collections, the below links present ebooks grouped by provider/publisher and sorted by author.
Use the Limit/Sort Search button at the top to search within these lists.
