MSM Library on Libby

Libby offers a user-friendly interface for reading some of the thousands of ebooks and magazines available through MSM's Library. You can also listen to our curated collection of audiobooks using the Libby app.

With Libby, you can read within your browser, download your borrowed items to your phone or tablet, and/or send borrowed items to your Kindle reader.

Getting Started with Libby

Step 1: Download or open Libby on your device

Note: libbyapp.com works best in up-to-date versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.

Step 2: Find your library and sign in

In Libby, click the three line menu icon and follow prompts to add your library by searching for "Manhattan School of Music" and add it to "Your Libraries." You can search by library name, city, or zip code. Once you've added MSM to your libraries, sign in using your MSM email credentials (no separate account creation needed).

Step 3: Find something to borrow

  • Tap the Search icon to find a specific title, author, series, etc.
  • Tap the Library icon to browse items available for accessing through Libby. You'll see collections organized by format (Books, Audiobooks, or Magazines).
  • Search the Library catalog or browse our digital magazine rack. This will give you complete results for all the physical and digital titles available to you, including items available through Libby.
Note: Links for items in the catalog available through Libby will take you to MSM's OverDrive site (the maker of Libby). You can borrow and read books from those links directly in your browser through OverDrive, or you can borrow the items in your browser and then find/read them through the Libby app.

Tip: Not ready to read a title, but want to keep track of it? Tag/save it for later.

Step 4: Access your borrowed content

Your loans and magazines appear on your Shelf, in the navigation footer. By default, all book and audiobook loans are downloaded for offline use when you have a Wi-Fi connection.

On your Shelf:

  • Tap Loans to read or manage your borrowed titles.
  • Tap Holds to see your place in line and manage your holds.
  • Tap Timeline to see your Libby activity history.
  • Tap Notices to see in-app notifications for your loans and holds. Choose what you want to be notified about under Menu > Notifications.
  • Tap a magazine on your Magazine Rack to start reading.

From your Shelf, you can also:

  • Tap Open book or Open audiobook to start reading or listening to a title.
  • Tap the cover image, then Send to Device to send a book to Kindle.

Your Borrowing Privileges

  • You can borrow up to 5 downloadable titles combined (across OverDrive and Libby combined)
  • You can place up to 5 holds on downloadable titles at a time
  • Unlike physical books from the Library, lending periods are limited to 14 days. You don't have to return them—they automatically expire at the end of the loan period. No overdue notices!

Feel free to contact a librarian if you have any issues, requests, or questions about Libby.
